HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION 2020 RESULTS

The latest reviews from James Halliday are now published! A great result for some lovely vintage wines.

2014 Bird On A Wire Wines Marsanne – 89 points

The alcohol is surprisingly obvious, With time it may retreat as the flavour of the marsanne continues – as we know it will – to grow.

2016 Bird On A Wire Wines Chardonnay – 94 points

From the Upper Yarra Gladysdale Vineyard, home to the Bird for 10 years. Developing nicely, adding complexity to the citrussy acidity of the wine, the length of the palate the badge honouring the Upper Yarra Valley.

2018 Bird On A Wire Wines Rosé – 94 points

Hand-picked, 100% whole bunch, 4 days on skins, foot-stomped once daily, whole-bunch pressed to oak to finish primary and malo ferment. Full pink-salmon hue; seriously savoury framework for the dry, but unmistakable pinot fruit flavours – red cherries blanched in white wine and pomegranate on the finish.

2018 Bird On A Wire Wines Pinot Noir – 94 points

Hand-picked, 25% whole bunches, the balance destemmed/crushed, 8 days on skins. Deep colour; impressive varietal pinot noir expression with spicy black cherry fruit leading the way. While full-bodied for pinot, has balance and length, and is not extractive. 155 dozen made.

2015 Bird On A Wire Wines Syrah – 95 points

This wine has it all, pushed further by the positive use of oak, sophisticated winemaking and the great vintage.
