Bird on a Wire Syrah 2014
The Syrah fruit is sourced from a vineyard in Yarra Glen, which is on an ENE slope optimising the warm sun but protecting fruit from Australia’s harsh afternoon summer sun. The soils are lean and gravelly which helps regulate vine vigour and crop load per vine. The lovely balance between fruit concentration and elegance through savoury tannins is a refection of the superior site these vines are grown on.
The 2014 vintage was a year of very high quality and low crops. Slightly more fruit from this year’s pick was allocated to Whole Bunch Crush (WBC), a technique well suited to the sight. As a result the fine, savoury tannins are entwined with beautiful intense fruit. In addition to the WBC, the fruit was split into whole bunch, whole berry and crushed portions and managed in small fermenters. Each batch spent between 14 days to 3 weeks on skin. Malolactic fermentation was carried out in barrel.
Oak treatment included 20% new. No Fining.
